When the ZR1 was reintroduced in 1990 it got the attention of the US and Int’l racing world. After many lackluster years of low performance in Corvettes, GM wanted a supercar and with a combined effort of GM and Lotus, they develop a 375HP (Later 405HP), all aluminum, dual overhead cam, 32 valve engine. They contracted Mercury Marine in Stillwater, OK as the manufacturer because of their high quality standards in making aluminum marine engines. The engines were then sent to the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, KY. The ZR1 broke many records typically averaging speeds of 175 MPH in 100, 500, 1,000, 3,000, mile events and also 12 and 24 hour endurance races. It also had a 0-60 time of a little over 4 seconds which was very respectable almost 30 years ago! This generation of the ZR1 was produced from 1990-1995 and are now catching the eyes of collectors. Total units produced 6,491 over the 5 year run. They were also not cheap with the base selling for $58,000, almost double the price of a standard C-4 Corvette.
